Thorasic outlet syndrome

Thorasic outlet syndrome is a group of disorders that occur when the blood vessels or nerves in the space between your collar bone of your ist rib become compressed.

Common Cause

  • Physical trauma from a car accident
  • Repetitive injuries from job or sports related activities.
  • Anatomical defects like “extra rib”

Types of syndrome

  1. Neurogenic Thorasic outlet syndrome

This condition includes compression of brachial plexus

2. Vascular Thorasic outlet syndrome

In this one or more veins or artery compressed

3. Non specific type

When nerves are compressed this condition will occur

Symptoms:

  • Wasting in the fieshy base of your limbs
  • Numbness in arms or fingers
  • Pain
  • Weakness in griping
  • In vascular tof there will be discolouration of hand (blueish)
  • Arm pain and swelling due to blood clots
  • Numbness

Treatment:

  • physical therapy and using pain relieving measures
  •  Stretching and strengthening exercises to shoulder muscles
  • Improve range of motion
  • Improve posture
